SANDAKAN: Sabah finances are strong and stable under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin praised Musa, saying his ability in managing state finances has enabled Sabah to undergo rapid development.
He also slammed SAPP president Datuk Yong Teck Lee who said Kuala Lumpur was following the footsteps of the British who brainwashed the people’s minds when they colonized the then North Borneo and said they were incapable of administering the state.
“He (Yong) has been left far behind as he is not following Sabah’s progress. The state is fast developing under the present government,” Muhyiddin said during a lunch and gathering with the people at Dewan Sri Libaran here yesterday.
He said the federal government is fair and committed to bringing progress to Sabah so that it is at par with other states in terms of development.
“We will continue to safeguard the interests of the people regardless of race and religion including in Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
Sabah today, he said, was more developed compared to before because the BN government under Musa has succeeded in getting the support of all races to contribute to the development of the state.
As such, the Deputy Prime Minister urged all BN leaders to work hard to ensure all development activities were carried out smoothly and achieve their objectives.
Muhyiddin who is also the deputy BN chairman, said in line with the 1Malaysia concept, the government would give priority to the interests and needs of the people.
“And through the KPI assessment, we ensure that the welfare of the people is not overlooked but to be given priority as well. By fulfilling the development needs of the people, we will achieve our endeavour to become a developed nation,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister also said it was very important for BN component party leaders to avoid any bickering which could affect the people’s confidence in the ruling coalition.
Sabah, he said was the best example to emulate in terms of relations among BN component parties.
“The BN must resolve any problem immediately and it must be strong because as a government, we have a responsibility towards the people who have confidence in our leadership,” he stressed.
Muhyiddin also said in developing the country, the government has spent billions of ringgit to ensure that the needs of the people are fulfilled.
Yesterday, the Deputy Prime Minister was also briefed on the progress of the Sandakan Education Hub in Sungai Batang before returning to the national capital.
Also present at the gathering were the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Peter Pang En Yin, Industrial Development Minister Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah, Deputy Senate Speaker Datuk Armani Mahiruddin, Gum Gum Assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Edris and more than 1,000 residents of Sandakan.
