4,666 theses available at Sabah State Library new branch next year

14th August, 2019

By JASON JACK EBIT

KOTA KINABALU: Students or researchers will now have the privilege to browse through 4,666 theses after the Sabah State Library opens its new branch next year.

Sabah Ministry of Education and Innovation Deputy Permanent Secretary Moira David said the collection of the theses was produced by students of public universities since 2015 until 2018 who also received state government’s scholarships.

There are various topics of theses, ranging from education, science, literature to socio-economy.

She added that previously, the theses were kept at the State Public Service Department (JPAN) and for the first time, they have been handed over to the Sabah State Library.

According to Moira, JPAN handed over the theses to the Ministry of Education and Innovation after the State Government scholarships (BKNS) was moved under the ministry back in January.

“We decided to share the government-sponsored students’ theses to everyone including students, researchers, as well as both government and private workers, so they can make use of it as their reference,” she said, adding that all copies of the theses are preserved.

She said this at a press conference during the theses handing over ceremony at the Sabah State Library on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Sabah State Library Senior Deputy Director (Services) Maria Sinti said they are planning to open a new branch at the Sabah State Administration Centre (PPNS) next year.

All of the theses will be kept in the new library at PPNS upon its completion next year.

She added that besides keeping the copies of theses in a library, there are also plans to digitise each thesis so it would be safer as well as allow easier access to the theses for the public.

Also present was Chief Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of Education and Innovation Ajijah Talip.
