Labuan fans treated to MMA action

KOTA KINABALU: Fans in Labuan were treated to incredible mixed martial arts action during the Ultimate Beatdown Borneo 34 The Way of KDM that was happening at the Labuan Seasport, over the weekend.

The event jointly organised by TeamKarabaw Sabah, TeamKarabaw Labuan, Papar Barber and Apparel Syndicate saw a total of 34 amateur Cage K1, Cage Boxing, MMA (mixed martial arts) and Pro MMA fights being held.

Event spokesman Rayner Kinsiong said they are happy to note that this edition of the championship was held successfully with plenty of explosive action.

“It has been a great fight day for everyone … the fans and the fighters alike,” said Rayner.

According to him, Ultimate Beatdown Borneo is the first MMA event in the country to have the IMMAF rules and regulations for youths.

“We are proud to have implemented the new ruling on youth bouts during the event,” he said.

On behalf of the organisers, Rayner also expressed his sincere thanks to Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Labuan Branch, especially its president Peter Pikul, Nestle (Milo), Tourism Malaysia, Labuan Liberty Port Management, Tunas Rakyat and official hotel, Hotel Tiara Labuan for the support they have given towards the staging of the event.

Labuan Member of Parliament Datuk Rozman Isli was there to grace the function.

Peter Pikul, MMA Malaysia president Rashid Salleh, Malaysia Tourism Board Labuan manager Norhidayah Mohd Nor and Labuan Youth and Sports Department director Mahanum Fauzi were also present.

Meanwhile, Maggie Quinn, representing Karabaw Labuan recorded a TKO (ground and pound) first-round win over Sharon Andrea of DSHA, Tawau in the main event.

She clinched the Pro atom weight KDM melt title in just one minute and 10 seconds.

In the co-main event, Zachenzie of KMMA Sabah also registered a first-round TKO win over Mobby of representing Madfight Club from Sarawak.

The feat saw him walk away with the amateur middleweight KDM belt title.

In another co-main event, Koo Jin Fuh won the amateur bantamweight KDM Defender Cup title.

Koo, representing Warmonger, registered a TKO (ground and pound) first-round win over Naziman Ampak of KMMA.
