KOTA KINABALU: For the first time in the history of the International Borneo Safari 4×4 Challenge, a helicopter will be deployed for emergency and aerial shots of the event.
Thanks to NCT Helicopter Sdn Bhd, who has agreed to sponsor its five-seater Eurocopter AS350BA for photographers and cameramen to take aerial photography of the convoy.
The 19th International Borneo Safari is scheduled for Oct 25 – Nov 1, where NCT Helicopter has also agreed to fly into the Deramakot Forest Reserve, where participants expect gruelling four nights of extreme off-road condition.
The chopper will be put on standby for the flag-off on Oct 25, deployed upon request by Kinabalu Four Wheel Drive Club (KFWDC) from Day One until the event ends in Sandakan.
NCT Helicopter’s Sunny Ho and NCT Forwarding & Shipping Sdn Bhd’s Ng Vui Chuan agreed to sponsor the chopper either for emergency flights or cameramen to board and take their shots of the convoy or when men and machine battle the tough track inside the Deramakot Forest Reserve.
NCT Helicopter has two terminal hangers at the Kota Kinabalu Terminal Two Airport and also at the Sandakan Airport for easy disposal of its fleet of choppers.
Its choppers are presently being used by Sabah Foundation to carry out its rural Flying Doctor Services, where on some occasions, they are summoned for mercy flights or to air-lift patients from remote areas in Sabah.
Apart from their obligations, the company also offers charter flights, cargo and business services, corporate hospitality, aerial filming, photography, weddings, pleasure flights and heli-dinning.
NCT Helicopter provides full service helicopter operations from Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan through its operators, the Layang Layang Aerospace Sdn Bhd.
It also offers charter flights to a wide range of destinations, as its fleet of choppers allow access to any suitable private landing site, such as hotel lawns, plantation’s fields or business car parks, private helipads and as well as other airports.
“We can arrange the flight to meet your needs. NCT Helicopter provides efficient links direct to vital business meetings, avoiding motorway congestion and unreliable public transport, thus minimising wasted travelling hours for top personnel and ensuring your arrival on time,” said Sunny Ho.
“You pay only the flying time, (RM3,000 per-flight-hour for the Eurocopter and RM2,650 per-flight-hour for the four-seater Bell 206), there is usually no charge for waiting.”
“Any additional charges which may be incurred, such as overnight accommodation for our pilot, will be charged at a predetermined rate.”
He said for cameramen who wish to take aerial shots, there are full safety harnesses and they can assist in any special permission necessary from the authority for mounting of external cameras.
At present, their clients include leading television production companies for filming work and several property developers and real estate agents.
For medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), NCT Helicopters are also equipped with litter kit for patient transfer either from hospital to hospital transfer or MEDEVAC from remote areas.
With one of their helicopters always on standby basis, they will be able to activate their MEDEVAC mission with one hour’s notice, because of its strategically located terminals, giving a comprehensive coverage area for the whole of Sabah.
He added, for the upcoming Borneo Safari, the Eurocopter will be utilised, especially when the participants are inside the Deramakot Forest Reserve.
