100 Christian students for Christian leadership camp

SANDAKAN: The St Mary Secondary School Christian Association is organising a three-day leadership camp for Christian students in Sandakan next month.

The organisers of the “Christian Students Leadership Camp” are targeting 100 Christian students from schools in the district for the camp to be held at the school from June 14 to 16.

Principal Myrene Gidung briefed UPKO Supreme Council Member and Libaran Division chairman Dr Peter Jr Naintin when the latter visited the school to present financial contribution for the organising of the event recently.

She thanked Peter for being supportive of activities organised by her school for the benefit of youths in Sandakan.

The objectives of the leadership camp are to train Christian students to become young leaders based on faith in the Federation of Christian Students at school and youth services in the church, strengthen self-spirituality through building a close relationship with God, develop the personality traits of students to contribute to their school and the community, and to create a spirit of unity and harmony among Christian students from schools in Sandakan.

Meanwhile, 10 students from SMK St. Cecilia Covent will be participating in the 2019 State level SPM Bible Knowledge Quiz in Kota Kinabalu on June 29.

Accompanied by two teachers Chai Fui Sin and Jovita Anggin, the team will depart for Kota Kinabalu on June 28 and return to Sandakan on June 30.

The participation in the quiz is give exposure to students who are new to the programme, to enhance the knowledge of those who have attended the programme before and to strengthen preparations for the SPM Bible Knowledge examination.

Earlier this week, the team received moral boost and financial support from UPKO Supreme Council Member and Libaran Division chairman Dr Peter Jr. Naintin.

Principal Soo Tian Hock expressed gratitude to Peter after receiving the contribution on behalf of the school from Peter when he visited the school.

SMK St Cecilia Convent had represented Sabah at the National level SPM Bible Knowledge Quiz in 2017 and 2018.
