The award is to recognise to the contribution made by young Sabahans below 40 years-old in various fields of progress or welfare for the benefit of the community. The ceremony comprised 10 award categories.

And apart from Rosnah and the other award recipients are Gary Chaw Pak Haw in the Cultural and Artistic Achievement category; Tan Kar Leong (Business, Economic or Entrepreneurial Accomplishment); Dr Roland Chia Ming Shen (Humanitarian and Voluntary Services); Ben Leong (Personal Improvement and Accomplishment): Kevin Loo Seng Pung (Moral and Religious Leadership); Calvin Tang Kiat Chung (Scientific and Technological Development); Steven Liau Chee Kok (Contribution to Children, World Peace, Nature or Human Rights); Stacie Angie Anam @ Stacie (Cultural and Artistic Achievement); and Mak Ching Hsia (Academic, Leadership and Accomplishment).

The recognition for Steven was the first for a representative from a Chinese association.

A photojournalist by profession with the Asia Times daily, Steven began his non-governmental organization career in the Hokkien Association as a committee member in 1986. He rose through the ranks and is currently the vice president of the Federation of Chinese Association. He is also the Youth head of the same association.

His biggest challenge came in the form of working together with other NGOs on big projects. His forte is known to be coordinating the efforts of all NGOs, government bodies and private firms to work together to achieve a common goal of not only to promote the Chinese culture but also the State of Sabah.

One such event was the elaborate staging of the Celebrating Malaysia-China 35 years of friendship in Cultural Unity. Steven was also the main contributor of the Beijing Olympics promotions in Kota Kinabalu. He managed to convince the Ambassador of China to Malaysia to have the Olympic mascots and the torch to be exhibited in the capital.

His most outstanding humanitarian effort was in the area of youth development. One such effort was in getting China to include Sabah Chinese youths to attend the annual youth camp in Xiamen-Root Seeking Winter Camp, the first for Sabah youths.

Meanwhile, Pang in his speech read by Jahid said the winners will be the icon for the youth of this state and they will become an inspiration for fellow Sabahans and in the process not only develop themselves but also the state.
