Myideas portal seeks input by creative M’sians

2nd August, 2009

PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) aims to achieve 1 Malaysia one million ideas by next year via its idea bank portal, myideas.

“The idea bank aims to promote and disseminate good and creative ideas to improve our nation by encouraging the public to generate them and participate in the problem-solving process,” said its minister Datuk Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili. He was speaking in his keynote address at the presentation of 2009 Junior Chamber International (JCI) Creative Young Entrepreneur Award yesterday.

The award aims to recognise young entrepreneurs and the important role that creativity plays in the success of entrepreneurial drive, as well as to showcase creative young entrepreneurs worldwide.

Set up in line with the government’s efforts to make next year the year of creativity and innovation, the portal features submission of ideas, participation and discussion of ideas in forums, database of ideas and ideas in implementation.

Ongkili said Malaysians had to go for higher value-added jobs and compete with the world for greater benefits.

“We need creative ways to reduce our cost and increase productivity, as well as new products and services with high-value to sustain economy growth,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bob Chua, founder of Pulse Group plc, Ganesh Kumar Bangah, co-founder of MOL Access Portal Bhd and Timothy Tiah Ewe Tiam, founder of Nuffnang Sdn Bhd, were selected to represent Malaysia at the JCI World Congress in November.
