KOTA KINABALU: Team Interior are determined to make their debut with a bang in this year’s Sabah Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) President’s Cup Challenge that will be held at the Luyang community hall, near here, next week.

Team manager Fabian Tonny Peter said they will be parading a total of eight boxers to the tournament under SABA’s annual calendar that will be happening from April 23-25.

Fabian, who is also the president of the Tambunan Boxing Association cum coach, said they will rely on four boxers to do a good job namely William Peter, Fabio Peter Fabian, Samuel Johnson and Addle Joel.

He said William won a gold medal at the Sabah Games in Sandakan in 2017 while Fabio was voted Best Youth Boxer for 2017 and was also the pra-Sukma 2018 athlete.

As for Samuel, he won a gold medal for the state at the Sarawak Sukma in 2016 while Addle clinched a gold medal at the Youth Championship last year.

Fabian, who is also the SABA deputy president and state coach, said it was unfortunate that their boxing sensation Rendell R. Kadayum could not make the tournament due to work commitment, but the latter will be part of the Interior team for the Mayor’s Cup that is expected to take place in July, this year.

According to him, the eight boxers will also be part of the Interior squad for the Mayor’s Cup.

He added that the boxers have been training regularly in two venues where Keningau boxers train at the Bingkor mini hall while those in Tambunan train at the Tambunan Sports Complex.

“There are about a week or so left and I hope all our boxers will be ready for the championship.

“This is our first appearance in the President’s Cup and we hope to spring a surprise or two and bring back the overall title,” he said, adding that this is also part of their preparations in their bid to defence the Mayor Cup that they won last year.

Interior full squad is as follows: Fabian (team manager cum coach), Arthur Udang (coach), Timmy A Mylon (assistant coach) while the boxers are William Peter (49kg), Fabio Peter Fabian (52kg), Frinkline J. Liman (56kg), Moen Justinus (60kg), Kevin Albert (64kg), Jeamsson Johnny (69kg), Samuel J. Michael (75kg) and Addle Joel (81kg).
