Start herbal garden in your backyard: Azizah

29th April, 2009

KOTA KINABALU: The people are encouraged to start an herbal garden in their backyard to help reduce daily expenses.

Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said that there are many types of herbs which people can plant themselves for daily consumption instead of having to buy from the market.

She also said that the herbs can be used to remedy illnesses as practiced by the older generation for a long time.

Azizah noted that developed countries like Singapore has already encouraged its citizens to start herbal gardens at their home compounds.

“We should not think that this practice is suitable for people in the villages,” she said when launching a herbal exhibition here yesterday.

She also said people should realize that they have been buying herbal-based products that originate from this country.

By planting their own herbs, people can reduce their daily expenses, she said.

On the exhibition, Azizah commended the initiative taken by the State Library for organizing the event which will create better public awareness of local herbs.
