22nd November, 2018

LAHAD DATU: The cops here have arrested a man who attacked his friend with a machete following an argument over durians at Kampung Buang Sayang in Mile 8, Jalan Segama here on Tuesday.

The suspect, aged 26, was detained by a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division at about 2.10pm after the victim lodged a police report on the incident, OCPD ACP Nasri Mansor said on Wednesday.

The suspect and victim both stay on a piece of land owned by another individual and at the same time helped to watch over the place.

At about 7.30am on Tuesday, the suspect had invited the victim to his house on the pretext of wanting to discuss some issues.

“When the victim entered the house, the suspect was waiting in the living room and took out a machete to hit his head, causing him to bleed from an injury,” Nasri said.

The victim managed to ward off an attempt by the suspect to swing the machete at him but was also assaulted during a scuffle.

The victim later went to the police station to lodge a report after the suspect had left the house.

Police arrested the suspect for investigation into the case under Section 324 of the Penal Code. They also seized a machete believed to have been used in the attack.

According to Nasri, police probe revealed the suspect was not satisfied with the victim for taking durians from the area where they were staying.
