Three new motoring brands among sponsors

11th October, 2018

By ERIC BAGANG

KOTA KINABALU: The Borneo Safari International Off-Road Challenge 2018 continues to receive support with three new motoring brands coming on board, sponsoring four vehicles in the expedition.

The brands are SEME HOWO Truck Sdn Bhd, distributor of HOWO trucks in Malaysia, ODR Lubricants Malaysia, ODR Lubricants Sabah, and EDS Lubricants whose brand logos will be printed on four vehicles participating in the Borneo Safari.

SEME Holdings Sdn Bhd managing director, Datuk Seri John Goh Kok Kheng said that the Borneo Safari is the right platform to promote its HOWO trucks as it implies durability and toughness of the products.

Launched early this year in two variants, he said that HOWO trucks suit the need of the industry in Sabah.

“The HOWO 7 is equipped with a Sinotruck engine, providing sufficient power and easy maintenance suitable for plantation and construction works, while the HOWO T5G is equipped with a more modern German MAN engine suitable for hauling loads on the road.

“Both models are offering more power, better fuel economy and lower maintenance costs compared to their competitors in the market,” he told the New Sabah Times when met during his meeting with Borneo Safari 2018 event manager, John Chak at SEME’s Sabah office recently.

Meanwhile, ODR Lubricants technical director, Kent Fon said that its lubricants are specially formulated to suit the local applications using German oil and formula.

He said that ODR is manufactured in Malaysia and is designed to suit the needs of Malaysian consumers. “It is high quality but affordable. Therefore I believe it is suitable for the demanding application in the Borneo Safari,” he said, adding that he is looking at a long-term working relationship with Borneo Safari. Speaking of EDS Lubricants, managing director, Datuk Johnson Goh Chee Yong said that it is a local brand which started in 2017.

He said that the lubricants are manufactured in Germany for Malaysian users, ensuring high quality with competitive prices.

“The beauty of the brand is that its lubricants can be customised for other applications such as the shipping industry,” he said.

John Chak who is also Sabah Four Wheel Drive Association (SFWDA) deputy president, thanked the sponsors who decided to collaborate with Borneo Safari for the first time.

Borneo Safari is a yearly off-road expedition that started 28 years ago by a group of four-wheel-drive vehicle enthusiasts.

It has grown to be the biggest gathering of highly-modified four-wheel-drive vehicles gathering in South East Asia with up to 400 vehicles participating every year with 1,000 participants from Malaysia as well as neighbouring countries.

The Borneo Safari 2018 will be flagged off in front of the Sabah Tourism Board building on October 28, and will end on November 04.
