SANDAKAN: The Sabah men’s and women’s rugby teams are confident of bringing back the gold medal at the 2018 Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Perak.

Eagles Rugby Club (ERC) president, Velayuthan Tan said the teams have undergone three phases of their training at the arena over the past four months.

“We do not insist on them, but we expect our teams to do their best at Sukma,” he told reporters after handing over the flag to the Sabah rugby teams at the ERC’s Eagles Sports Arena here two days ago.

The ceremony was officiated by Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) president Datuk Peter Hii. Also present were convener ERC Dr. KH Tan.

Meanwhile, Datuk Peter Hii when met by reporters said he hoped the two teams would bring home victories from Sukma. “I have always given full support to rugby,” Hii said.

He also praised the commitment of Vela Tan and ERC in ensuring the continued development of the sport in Sabah.
