KOTA KINABALU: The first phase of balloting this year for Class F contractors to undertake government projects in the Keningau division will take place on Monday, January 12.
The random selection will be conducted by the Sabah Development Office (SDO) together with the Kota Kinabalu City Hall, municipal councils and district offices.
Projects will include maintenance of public and basic infrastructure in the Keningau division which encompasses the districts of Tambunan, Keningau, Tenom, Nabawan and sub-districts of Kemabong, Sook and Pagalungan.
Registration of contractors start at 9am on Monday followed by balloting at 10.30am at the Keningau community centre.
State development officer, Haji Matusin Sunsang said the balloting system of selecting was to ensure all Class F contractors had equal opportunities.
“This way the small federal projects can be distributed fairly among the Class F contractors,” he said at a press conference held at his office here yesterday.
On Wednesday, 14 January balloting will be held for the Beaufort division at the Pa’ Musa community centre in Beaufort.
In Tawau and Sandakan, it will be held on 20 and 22 January respectively at the Tawau and Sandakan community centres.
Balloting of contractors for jobs in the Kota Kinabalu division will be held on 28 and 29 January at the auditorium hall of the Sabah Federal Complex while in Kudat, it will be on 2 February at the Tun Mustapha Hall.
Matusin said the contractors will be divided into two groups. Those with a financial capacity of below RM10,000 will be given to do projects that cost below RM50,000.
Others with financial capacity above RM10,000 will carry out projects between RM50,000 and RM200,000.
Projects are estimated to take between four to eight weeks to complete.
The first phase of federal projects will involve RM87.6 million. Total allocated for maintenance of public and basic infrastructure in Sabah this year is RM130 million.
According to Matusin, 1,004 maintenance projects for public infrastructure have been approved costing RM74.5 million and another RM13 million for 207 basic infrastructure projects.
The target is to ensure 80 per cent of contractors registered with the district office get the opportunity to secure the projects.
