Sabah cyclist Mike does Malaysia proud

KOTA KINABALU: State teenage cyclist, Mike Melson Fung did Malaysia and Sabah proud after winning a silver medal at the Continental Cycling Championship held at Danao City, Philippines on Sunday.

The 17-year-old Sabahan was not the only national cyclist contributing a medal to the contingent as Nur Deena Safia from Kuala Lumpur won a bronze medal.

When contacted recently, Sabah Cycling Association (SSCA) secretary, Beatrice Lajawa said that Mike finished second in the Boys’ Junior Downhill event.

“Whereas Deena crossed the finish line in third place for the Under-23 XCO event behind the winner, Ariana Domitorio from the Philippines and Thailand’s Natalie Panyawan in second,” she said. For the record, the three-day championship saw the participation of top cyclists from Asia, including Japan and China.
