Jlo and Leah Remini joined at the hip

9th October, 2008

Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini were like a couple of high schoolers last night at Elle’s Women in Hollywood Tribute.

The two arrived hand in hand and then dashed through the predinner cocktail reception still holding hands. (A big burly bodyguard led them through the crowd, making sure no one got in their way.) As soon as they made it to their seats, they hung out like a couple of cool chicks in the cafeteria.

They talked, they giggled, and they took pics of each other with their BlackBerrys.

And it didn’t end there…

They excused themselves from their table (which included Jenny McCarthy and the emcee for the night, E!’s Chelsea Handler) at least twice to go to the loo. And yes, they walked to and from the bathroom holding hands.

Still glued to each other’s sides at the end of soiree, they spent their last few minutes there chatting with Nicole Kidman.

I know what you’re thinking: Lopez is just giving more evidence to claims that she’s become a Scientologist like Remini. Who really knows what’s going on there, but for more on the theory ya gotta read what Lopez told writer Kevin Sessums over at the Daily Beast about the controversial L. Ron Hubbard church.

OK, enough about Lopez and Remini—let’s get on to the show.

The standout for the evening had to be Jane Fonda. Looking absolutely, positively stunning, Ms. Fonda said one of the biggest reasons she and her fellow honorees showed up for the event was for the—ha!—“publicity.”

Even Fonda said she was impressed by the star power that gathered for the exclusive gala at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. The elbow-to-elbow crowd included honorees Kidman, Halle Berry, Sigourney Weaver, Anne Hathaway, Isla Fisher and Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, along with Diane Keaton, Eva Mendes, Kate Beckinsale, Sheryl Crow, Shirley MacLaine, Courteney Cox, Kerry Washington, Jennie Garth, Katharine McPhee and Cheryl Hines. Yes, there were men: David Arquette, Peter Facinelli, Chris Evans, Troy Garity and Get Smart director Peter Segal were among the very few.

While Fonda cracked that she was nervous to meet Sacha Baron Cohen “because he’s so cute,” she put all kidding aside when it came to one particular 22-year-old up-and-comer. “I got really excited about being here because there’s Kat Dennings,” Fonda cooed. “You don’t know who I’m talking about, but you will.”

Dennings stars alongside Michael Cera in the just-released romantic comedy Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.

“That,” Dennings said of Fonda’s shout-out, “was the best moment of my life!
