best of the best at blue note

5th October, 2008

KOTA KINABALU: Night crawlers will experience groovy nights throughout this month in Blue Note at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa. A group of celebrity percussionists will be performing for guests at Blue Note every Friday night.

Ananth a.k.a. Skykiss kicked off with his mesmerising enchantments at Blue Note on Wednesday. He started 10 years ago as a music producer, composer, sound designer and a professional guitarist.

His experience gained over the years at Betarecs has landed him his first international debut to produce two consecutive albums for Australian-based goth rock star, “Orion” under Shuteye Records. On October 10, Badar Fawzi Ben Taleb will have his chance to entertain guests. He is an established percussionist and vocalist who has been working with various bands, groups and artistes for the past 18 years.

He is also active on the recording scene as composer, lyricist co-producer and secessionist for various local artistes, namely Amy Mastura, Ruhil Amani, Emilina, Mas Idayu, Shima, Mel (ex-Wings), Ukays, Samad and Man Keedal (Lefthanded), Rahim Maarof, Aris Ari Watan, Hattan, Salim Iklim, Ella and Prema Lucas.

The groove in Blue Note continues when Arab, a seasoned guitarist and vocalist with 15 years experience, will show off his skills on October 17.

A veteran in music of the 1970s to the current top 40 hits, he has made a name with the ever-popular Malaysian NRG band. A slick guitarist and a vocal range to the likes of Stevie Wonder, he has a strong charisma, energy and stage presence while performing.

Colin Jansen will entertain guests on October 24 with his music genre. He was introduced to the music scene in the 1980s when he won a talent time contest in Ampang while singing “Johnny B Goode”. He emerged as a super slick guitarist who then ventured into full time playing and backing top recording artistes like Khatijah Ibrahim, Ziana Zain, Lewis Pragasam, Ramli Sarip and other artistes.

Colin formed and played in many top bands in Malaysia as well as travelling overseas for gigs. Mark Felix will conclude the groove shows on October. His journey in the music industry started with a band called “The Wheelers” and he moved on to join the “Southern Reign” band. His outstanding talent has made him a sought-after musician in the local scene. From heavy drumming at The Hard Rock Cafe to the light tones at the Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Mark has endured, been accommodated and appreciated by many music fans.
