Dewanita organize charity run for kidney diseases awareness

KOTA KINABALU: Dewanita DPMM Sabah, the women wing of the Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM) is back with their charity run in conjunction with the World Kidney Day to create awareness of kidney diseases.

Its chairperson, Dg Halimah Md Yusof said that this time, the wing is working together with DPMM youth wing, Dewan Muda and Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) haemodialysis unit.

Dubbed Save Life Charity Run Vol 2, following their successful first Save Life Charity Run for Thalassemia in 2016, she said the run will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the University Malaysia Sabah.

“The objective of this run is to collect fund for the QEH haemodialysis unit in support of the kidney patients, while at the same time to create awareness for kidney diseases,” she said when met after paying a courtesy call on Health Director, Datuk Dr Christina Rundi at the latter’s office here yesterday.

Speaking of the courtesy call, Dg Halimah thanked Dr Christina for her support, and welcomed her suggestion for more collaboration between them and the department.

Also present at the courtesy call were DPMM Sabah honorary secretary, Mohd Ghazali Mohd Nazir who represented the organisation’s chairman, Datuk Ag Buhtamam Ag Mahmun, Dewan Muda DPMM chairman, Mohd Shamsul Azri Abd Wahid, and Dewanita DPMM secretary, Nora Abd Rahim.

Dg Halimah urged running enthusiasts and members of the public to join the run while at the same time helping those affected by the disease.

The run is divided into four categories – namely Men’s open, Men veteran, Women’s open, and Women veteran. Those interested in taking part may contact Farah at 019-8023938, Diyana at 8176597, Faizal at 014-6550942, or DPMM office at 088-263724.

Registration is open until March 31, at RM80 per person for individual and RM70 per person for a group of up to five persons.
