KDM, DYS in FAM Cup debut

2nd January, 2016

By FRANCIS XAVIER Francis@newsabahtimes.com.my

KOTA KINABALU: KDM Malaysia FC and DYS FC have been given the nod to feature in the FAM Cup League this upcoming new season.

With their entries, Sabah will have two representatives in the competition, which is dubbed as the country’s third division league, after the Super League and the Premier League.

“Both teams have been accepted to compete in the FAM League 2016. With their inclusion, it will give more local players the opportunity to showcase their talent at the national level scene,” said Alijus Hj Sipil yesterday.

The Sabah FA Secretary General said they had received a letter from the FA of Malaysia dated December 31, 2015, which confirmed their acceptance into the competition.

Both KDM Malaysia FC and DYS FC have not competed at this level of competition, and will go into the league as the underdogs.

“We wish both teams all the best and hope that they can make Sabah proud. “It is also our wish to see them show high sportsmanship and maintain their disciplines at all times in order to maintain the good image of the state,” Alijus added.

At press time, it was still not known where their home venues are, but KDM Malaysia has expressed their intention of wanting Keningau Sports Complex as their home venue.

However, the condition of the field at the sports complex may not see KDM Malaysia having their wish granted unless they can improve it over the short period of time, as the FAM Cup League 2016 is expected to kick off late February, 2016.

As for DYS FC, it is still not known their preferred home venue. The Likas Stadium is unlikely to be available as it will be used by the State Premier League team as well as the Reserve League squad or even the State Under-19 squad.

For the record, the last time Sabah had a representative in the FAM Cup League was in 2014 where Cebagoo FC appeared for two seasons before calling it a day this year.
