Chicken price goes up

P8a
It is costing consumers more to eat chicken these days.

7th September, 2008

KENINGAU: The wholesale price of chicken has shot up by 30 sen and this means consumers will have to pay more to eat chicken.

The retail prices of chicken here are now RM8.90 per kilogramme (standard) and RM8.69 per kilogramme (super).

However, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry’s office here said the new prices were still within the means of consumers.

The Consumers Club said the increase in chicken retail prices was inevitable as the wholesale price has gone up.

“The retailers will suffer losses if they maintain the old prices,” it explained.

The ministry also said there is enough supply of rice during the fasting month.
