Barracuda FC, Juta FC storm into Tawfiq Cup semis

KOTA KINABALU: Barracuda FC from Pensiangan and Keningau’s Juta FC marched into the semi-finals in style at the Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan Cup 9-a-side Championship 2017.

The two sides from the Interior both recorded resounding wins over the respective opponents in the quarter-finals at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex synthetic pitch over the weekend.

Barracuda gave no mercy to their opponents as they thrashed EMD FT Kota Kinabalu 6-1 in the last-eight encounter. As for Juta FC, they trounced Teambau FC Kota Belud 6-2.

However, only one of them will stand a chance in clinching the crown after being pitted to take on each other in the semi-final, which has been slated for Dec 10.

The match will be played at the Likas Stadium. Kick-off time is 4pm.

The other semi-final tie will see The Blues FC Kota Kinabalu taking on Terra Queen FC Kota Kinabalu. The match will be played at the synthetic pitch on Dec 9. Kick-off time is also at 4pm.

In the quarter-finals, Terra Queen registered a narrow 1-0 win over Kelab Reka DBKK while The Blues FC scored a 5-4 penalty shootout win over Putra United of Kota Belud after both sides failed to settle the score in regulation and extra time where it ended two-all.

The inaugural tournament organised by Titingan Football Club (TFC) with the cooperation of Real Event, Mizanis Sports Boutique (MSB), Yunus Property Consultant Sdn Bhd and PANZER is offering a total of RM29,000 besides trophies and medals.

The champions will receive RM12,000 while RM7,000 for the runners-up.

The two losing semi-finalists will receive RM300 while the losing quarter-finalists will be rewarded with RM1,000. The competition that kicked off early last month attracted a total of 23 teams.
