KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s rising golf star Ben Leong (pictured) plays on home soil this week and is hoping for a win after a couple of strong finishes on the Asian Tour this season.

The Mercedes-Benz Masters Malaysia starting Wednesday also features Danny Chia and Airil Rizman from the host nation, as well as leading Filipinos Mars Pucay, Artemio Murakami and Anthony Lascuna, and Thai star Wisut Artjanawat.

“I just have a bit more confidence and experience this year which is why I am playing better,” said Ben, whose two top-five finishes on the Asian Tour currently puts him 56th on the 2008 Money List with US$40,215.

The 22-year-old’s best finish was tied third in the Asian Tour International in Thailand.

“It’s been a good year in Thailand especially. I was also joint fifth in the Thai PGA and in the top-15 in Samui. I have been at home in Sabah for the past few weeks resting but I am looking forward to the week,” said Ben, winner of the Asian Tour Qualifying School in 2007 and 2008.

The Mercedes-Benz Masters Malaysia is the Mercedes-Benz Tour’s fourth event of the season. The US$50,000 tournament at Saujana Golf and Country Club, near Kuala Lumpur, has a starting field of 125 players.
