400 involved in distributing leaflets

23rd July, 2008

KOTA KINABALU: A man who testified on the second day of the Api-Api election petition trial said that nearly 400 people and 40 vehicles were involved in distributing pamphlets.

He said this during a cross-examination by counsel Raymond Szetu Mei Thong.

Alexander Wong Min Vui in testifying before Judge Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahim said that 400 people including those wearing Barisan Nasional shirts were involved in the distribution.

When questioned further, Alexander said that there was a record of the registration numbers of vehicles claiming fuel expenses.

According to him, one ‘Ah Seng’ had employed him to distribute the pamphlets and the claims book was with the latter.

On the instruction of Ah Seng, he and the others distributed the pamphlets from 9.30pm until 11.30pm on March 6 and that only two out of the 98 bundles of pamphlets that had been distributed were seized by the police.

Alexander was made to take charge of the task in Luyang area. A man named Philip was in charge of Kota Kinabalu and Kepayan areas while another called Neal in Likas area.

Earlier, counsel Datuk Chau Chin Tang in his examination asked if Alexander had seen the poster and Alex said in the affirmative.

“I saw the poster on the fifth floor of Airport View Hotel on March 6,” he said adding that Ah Seng had also instructed him to distribute the posters.

When asked why Ah Seng called him to the hotel, Alexander said he was told there were posters that needed to be distributed.

On the number of posters involved, Alexander said there were 98 bundles with 200 to 300 pieces of poster in each bundle.

He claimed to have met another person at the hotel, Chin Tet Ming who asked him to distribute the boxes containing the posters. A list of locations was also given.

Alexandar said he could still remember where the posters had been distributed – Kota Kinabalu, Luyang, Penampang, Kepayan, and Bukit Padang.

He said nearly 200 workers were involved in distributing the posters including those at the Airport View Hotel. Private vehicles numbering from 20 to 40 were used to transport the posters.

Alexander said his group had gathered at a Petronas fuel kiosk in Luyang where he ordered the ‘distributors’ to go to their respective places. Hearing continues.
