KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Simpanan Nasional Bhd (BSN) aims to attract more small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to take up its micro financing loan called Temaniaga.
Deputy chief executive for finance and banking operation, Hasan Mohamed, said the loan was for SMEs involved in the manufacturing, retail and services business.
“We launched Temaniaga late last year but there is lack of awareness about the product in the market. We want more SMEs to use the service,” he told Bernama recently.
So far only RM20 million has been disbursed for 1,400 accounts, he said.
He said SMEs, which had been in operation for at least two years with turnover of RM250,000 and less than five workers, were eligible for the loan.
“Under the Temaniaga micro finance, BSN will give out loan from as little as RM5,000 to RM50,000 for a period of five years.
“The bank also offers one of the cheapest interest rates in town for micro finance of between 15-17 percent per annum and we give three percent rebate for good pay masters,” he said.
Hasan said BSN would like go big in micro financing.
“Currently, micro finance makes up only 10 percent of our total assets of RM16 billion. We will like to increase it to 30 percent by 2011,” he said.
He said besides the conventional methods such advertising in papers and television, BSN has also held road shows to promote Temaniaga.
“The response is good, especially from Terengganu, Kelantan, Johor, Melaka and the rural areas of Selangor,” he said.—BERNAMA BSN has a customer base of seven million.
