Habib Jewels among victims of oil price hike

6th July, 2008

KOTA KINABALU: Even jewellery and gemstones stores such as Habib Jewels Sdn Bhd are affected by the hike in oil price last month.

According to Habib Jewels Sdn Bhd general manager, Gary Joseph in an interview with the New Sabah Times, they experienced a reduction in the number of people patronizing their stores when the fuel price hike was announced.

“Last month, we experienced a drop in sales, but it is picking up again,” he said.

He said that with Habib’s experience in the market coupled with their good pricing and quality products, the number of people coming in was picking up.

“If you know your market well and are able to give good pricing to people, you will be able to get a good crowd,” he said.

Meanwhile, those who love jewelleries, particularly diamonds and precious gemstones should visit the Habib Jewels store at 1Borneo as they could get up to 70 percent discount on selected diamonds and gemstones until July 6.

Gary said that they have quite a huge selection of diamond pieces for patrons to choose from.

He introduced their Empress selection which consisted of stunning diamond pendants, earrings, rings, bangles and bracelets and said that buyers would only need to pay a tenth of what they would normally have to pay for such pieces.

For the Empress selection, the craftsmen at Habib joined several pieces of diamond to make them look like a five or two-carat diamond piece.

This, he said, was the reason for the Empress selection’s affordability.

“One would easily fork out RM90,000 for a piece of two carat diamond piece, but with the Empress selection, you need only pay RM8,000 for something similar,” he said.

Nevertheless, for those willing to spend a bit more, Habib also sells Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certified diamonds.

“Our prices for GIA diamonds are quite competitive as we have strong stock buying power…this benefits our buyers in terms of price,” he said.
