YONG GUNNING FOR HAT-TRICK

HENRO LEE … a former Mr Asia finalist.

4th July, 2008

KOTA KINABALU: Reigning champion Yong Chee Ken is seeking his third Mr Sabah title at this year’s Mr Sabah Bodybuilding Championship that begins with the pre-judging at the Asia City Complex today (10am).

Yong will be among the more than 60 hulksters from throughout the State that would flex their muscles at the Sabah Amateur Bodybuilding Association’s (SBBA) annual event where the final has been scheduled for 2pm at the same venue on Saturday. But unlike previous years, this time around, the competition is being held together with the Mr Gym Rakyat.

The two-in-one championship that features a total of 12 categories (eight for Mr Sabah and four for Mr Gym Rakyat) is jointly organised by SBBA and the Federal Youth and Sports Department Sabah and supported by the Sabah Sports Council. SBBA President Datuk Juhar Mahiruddin, who is also the State Speaker, said that this time around, they are expecting the event to be more exciting and merrier with the inclusion of the Mr Gym Rakyat.

“I hope the public will not miss this event because this is going to be an interesting event,” said Juhar. “Furthermore, this tournament is going to feature the best hulksters we have in the State. We have several notable hulksters such as Yong (Chee Ken), Henro Lee and William Amro to name a few.

“At the same time we also hope to unveil new faces, who could give these seasoned campaigners a run for their money,” he added. Yong, who is likely to compete in the middleweight category, is likely to face a stiff challenge from former Mr Sabah Henro as well as William. Another name that could spring a surprise is Kasmin Tiongsoh.

Juhar said they will be using the championship to select hulksters to represent the State at the Mr Malaysia 2008 to be held in Negeri Sembilan later this month.
