New Chinese Consul-General pledges to serve Sabah well

KOTA KINABALU: The newly appointed Consul-General of China in Sabah, Liang Caide has pledged to continue to serve the state here as the boat of friendship.

He also vowed to continue to forge the bridge of cooperation, the window of service and the overseas home for Chinese citizens.

“I hope to have your continuous support for our work,” remarked Liang upon arrival at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) from Hong Kong last night.

He was greeted by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Pang Yuk Ming and his deputy consul Zhang He.

Liang, 52, who last served in Romania, China’s second ConsulGeneral to be posted to Sabah, succeeding Chen Peijie who ended her tour of duty on July 9 this year after serving two-and-a-half years here.

“China and Malaysia are good neighbours, friends and partners. Our relationship is currently at its best time in history and Sabah-Labuan is an important stop on the Maritime Silk Road,” said Liang who is born in Zhejiang.

“Coming to serve as the consul general here at this juncture, I feel both the glory of the mission and the responsibility of the task.

“Bearing our mission in mind, my colleagues and I will try our best to fulfill the duties. “We will continue to promote the friendship between China and Malaysia, as well as the cooperation and exchanges in various areas between the two places,” said Liang.

He also thanked the representatives from different sectors of Sabah-Labuan for welcoming him. “I am very touched by the hospitality and kindness extended by you upon my arrival.

“This is my first time stepping onto the ‘Land Below the Wind’, but I have heard much about its beautiful scenery, simple and honest people, and plentiful resources,” said Liang.

He felt pleased and honored to have the opportunity to work here and looking forward to the forthcoming work.

Also present were State Legislative Assembly deputy speaker Datuk Dr Johnson Tee, Kuala Penyu Assemblyman Limus Jury, Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce president Tan Sri Andrew Liew Siew Fatt, Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Datuk Michael Lui, Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce Sabah Branch president Datuk Frankie Liew and Sabah Ma-Zhong Friendship Association president Dr Oh Ei Sun as well as Chinese community and association leaders.
