Record 32 teams for Sedco Golf Challenge

11th August, 2017

By UMESH RAJAN

KOTA KINABALU: The 15th Sedco Golf Challenge this year will see another record breaking number of teams participating as the tournament tees off on August 19 at Dalit Bay Golf and Country Club in Tuaran.

According to organising chairman, Mordiana Abdullah, a total of 32 teams have confirmed their participation for the tournament organised by Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) in conjunction with its 45th anniversary celebration.

“This is the highest number of teams participating in the tournament for the second year in a row and as part of the organising committee, I would like to apologise to the teams that wanted to register for the tournament but could not as we have surpassed the entry limit,” she said.

She added the tournament this year is special as it will be jointly organised together with the State Economic Development Corporation (PKEN) Golf Challenge where it involves golfers from Selangor, Kedah, UDA Holdings, Melaka, JCORP, Sarawak, Pahang and Sabah.

The tournament tees off at 7.30am while using the Stableford 36 System format where attractive prizes are up for grab including a hole-in-one main prize of RM20,000 cash for the lucky golfer who shot an ace at the Par 3 8th and 17th hole as well as three prizes for the team event (Nett), five prizes for individual (Nett), three prizes for individual (Gross) and several novelty prizes (longest drive, nearest to pin, nearest to line).

Mordiana said that the objectives of the competition is to foster and promote goodwill and interaction among the participants comprising Sedco group companies, government and private agencies as well as associations around the state while at the same time to raise fund for the Sedco Group Club.

During last year’s edition, SEDCO Sabah won the Open category to lift the SEDCO Challenge Trophy while Team Blue Chamber claimed the Closed category.
