KOTA KINABALU: A parade to confer the Battle Honour “Daulat Feb 2013” will be held today at Padang Merdeka to commemorate the sacrifices of the fallen during the Tanduo standoff in 2013.

It will also award the champions of the terrorist incident which occurred in Lahad Datu.

A parade involving 230 officers and 1,880 personnel will be held based on the concept of Ceremony and Combat. Set to march are the Colour Guards of the 24 regiments and units who were involved in Operasi DAULAT in 2013 – 12 from the Malaysian Army, three from the Royal Malaysian Navy and nine from the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

The Battle Honours is an award of a right by a government or sovereign to a military unit to emblazon the name of a battle or operation on its flags, uniforms or other accessories where ornamentation is possible.

Defence Minister Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein will present another Colour emblazoned with Daulat FEB 2013 to the units involved in Op Daulat in the presence of Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, Deputy Secretary of Defence Dato’ Sri Mohd Johari Baharum, and Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Nor.

The historical occasion starts at 9am today with displays of various armored fighting vehicles, an army food truck, mobile field hospitals, and artillery weapons.

The parade and awards ceremony will be carried out at 9pm.

In a press conference, Malaysian Army Eastern Commander, Lieutenant General Dato’ Wira Mohd Zaki Mokhtar said that the public are welcome to witness the event.

The roads encompassing Padang Merdeka will be closed to make way for the various booths that will be on display.
