Team De Palm Grills outplay BDTTA Sierra

KOTA KINABALU: Team De Palm Grills and Steakhouse from Sandakan emerged champions of the Sabah Table Tennis Masters Championship 2017.

De Palm Grills’ foursome, Fu Shian Tshun, Lim Yin Vui, Chan Chiou Liang and Ho Kah Lin clinched the title after defeating Brunei’s BDTTA Sierra 3-0 in the final of the inter-team tournament that ended at the Dewan Sri Putatan near here on Sunday.

En route to the final, De Palm Grills also registered a straight sets 3-0 win over another Sandakan outfit SOEDC, represented by Nelson Lam Zi En, Tong Yie Keng, Derek Chu Sin Wui and Chin Vun Kian in the semi-final.

On other the hand, BDTTA Sierra that comprised seven players namely Revales Samuel, Lim Kian Hiong, Lai Kok Siung, Hu King Ung, Tan To Ming, Ang Wee Tiam and Haji Abd Rahman registered a 3-0 win over Papar (Muhamad Rizuan Majin, Ahmad Sabrie Mustapan, Mohd Hassanel Tahir, A. Suhaili Ibrahim, Suhaimi Saidi, Mohd Noh Mohd Taip and Yahya Nordin).

The feat saw De Palm Grills and Steakhouse collect the RM1,000 prize money.

In the Consolation category, Inanam Kimia B emerged top. They received RM500 prize money.

Kimia B made up of Chong Su Phin, Soulis Palipus, Rasmin, Lazimmy, Yip Kin San and Sim See Tiang overcame Low Dai Yei, Puh Suan Kean, Fonbuena Jiffy Bata-An, Chen Hian Chin and Munggu Rahim of BDTTA Bravo from Brunei 3-2 in the final.

A total of 25 teams took part in the two-day competition organised by Kota Kinabalu Tennis Association. Former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yee Moh Chai was there to grace the closing ceremony and gave away the prizes to the winners.

KKTA President Edward Chua was also present together with his committee members.
