TAWAU: Twenty seven Indonesians including a skipper were picked up from a boat at Mile 4 waters on Friday by marine police.

State Region 4 commander, ACP Mohd Yazib Abd said a patrol vessel spotted the boat before 8pm and decided to check it.

Onboard were 26 passengers aged between 43 and four months, who were heading to Kg Hidayat, Mile 4 Jalan Apas. The 19-year-old skipper could not account for his passengers, and did not have any document, Mohd Yazib said in a statement yesterday.

The skipper is being investigated for migrant smuggling and the passengers have been referred to the Immigration Department for further action. – By Nazrini Badarun
