Pasar Gantung will be rebuilt – Alijus

17th July, 2017

TAWAU: The fire-destroyed Pasar Gantung will be rebuilt at the same location, said Tawau municipal council president, Alijus Sipil.

He said the new market will be able to attract visitors and safety aspects of the new facility will be taken into account.

“We are discussing on the next step to rebuild the market as it had attracted many visitors,” he said when commenting on the fate of the market which was razed on Friday.

He said the affected traders would be able to do their business in two areas.

“During our meeting, we identified an area near Empire will be for traders dealing in decorative items, and for cloth trading, the new spot will be in front of Marcopolo hotel,” he told reporters at his Raya open house here yesterday. For traders unaffected by the fire, they would continue with their business after the authorities have inspected the place.

“We want to ensure that the facility is safe,” he said.

During the incident, 77 trading lots were destroyed. Also gutted was a two storey building with five business premises, adjacent to the market. – By Nazrini Badarun
