More than 100 villagers evacuated in flash floods

HEADING TO HIGHER GROUND…rescuers evacuating some of the villagers

SIPITANG: More than 100 people from Kampung Mesapol Lama and three nearby villages have been evacuated from their homes early yesterday when it was struck by flash floods.

The evacuees totaled 107 from 42 families comprised 70 adults and 39 children. They are being temporarily placed at the Sipitang community hall.

The villages that were affected were Kampung Kalamauh, Kampung Tunggul Tinggi and Kampung Lalang.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department division Operations chief Khatizah Rahaban said there has been no report of casualties. –By Jonathan Nicholas
