Scholarship awaits top 10 beauty pageant winners

KOTA KINABALU: Scholarship for hospitality degree is among the prizes waiting for the top ten winners of Mitarab Gimpuhut Momogun (MGM) (Beauty Pageant) in this year’s Pesta Magahau.

Sabah Momogun Rungus Association (SAMORA) president, Datuk Jelani Hamdan said that the scholarship is sponsored by City University Kuala Lumpur and its partner VATEL, a France-based international business school specialising in hotel and tourism management.

According to him, each scholarship is worth RM31,000 with an opportunity to get sponsorship from industry players and guaranteed employment upon graduation.

Other prizes include cash, and all-paid trip to the International French Travel Market exhibition in Paris, France, and cosmetics products from Kak Fai Legacy.

He said that the MGM will be held during Pesta Magahau 2017, on July 31 at the Puruvan Square in Matunggong. Apart from MGM, Jelani said that there are several other activities that will be conducted throughout the four-day festival including Sodop Papak Tavasi which will be held on July 28, at the Matunggong open hall where the MGM contestants will be featured while showcasing modern Rungus traditional attires.

“Singing competition will also be held during the Sodop Papak Tavasi, while battle of the bands will be held on the next day, July 29, at the same venue.

“On July 30, there will be traditional games competition held at the same venue while the MGM contestants will be attending and meeting the people,” he told a press conference here on Wednesday.

According to Jelani who is also Matunggong Assemblyman, the highlight of Pesta Magahau on July 31 will attract some 10,000 visitors.

Among other activities held throughout the festival, he said, are Mitarab Mongigol Sumundai, Mitarab Longoi Kodori, Mitarab Pinapakan/Sulap, Mitarab Manabas Sulung Kisurip Momogun, Mindahu Mamapak, Mitarab Kaakanan Kodori, and Mitarab Kohukumo.

He also disclosed that Pesta Magahau 2017 is held in seven zones including Klang Valley, in Kuala Lumpur, starting with Pitas zone on July 7 and 8, followed by Klang Valley zone on July 15 and 16, at Matic Hall, Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

“Matunggong zone will be held on July 15, at the Pusat Kebudayaan & Warisan Rungus Badarang Sikuati, Kudat, and Kota Marudu zone will be on July 16 at Kampung Binsoton Darat.

“Kudat zone will be on July 21 and 22, at the Kampung Andab Kimihang multipurpose hall, Beluran zone will be on July 22 at the Kampung Tankarason Paitan multipurpose hall, and finally Kota Kinabalu zone on July 23 at the Putrajaya mini multipurpose hall in Telipok.
