S'kan police looking for two armed robbery suspects

19th June, 2017

By James Leong

SANDAKAN: Two masked men armed with a sword struck at a hotel near Mile 6 Jalan Labuk in the wee hours of Saturday.

A 24-year-old female staff on night shift went to check the source of noises coming from the front counter at about 12.11am. A masked man charged into the hotel office and pointed a sword at her and her younger sister who was keeping her company.

The suspect ordered the staff to hand over valuables to him. Another masked accomplice entered the office and the frightened staff gave the suspects the hotel safety box consisting RM 1,500 and four mobile phones. Losses were estimated at about RM3,500.

The staff and her sister seized the opportunity to dash into the toilet and locked themselves inside when they saw the suspects talking to each other.

Both of them emerged from the toilet to alert the hotel security after the suspects had fled. The police received information on the robbery at 1.45 am.

“We are investigating the case under Section 395 / 397 of the Penal Code,” OCPD ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin said on Sunday.

According to Mohd Azhar, the suspects were believed to be in their 20s. The security guard on duty was behind the hotel building at the time of the incident.

The district police chief urged members of the public with information on the robbery to come forward to assist police investigations. They can contact investigation officer, Inspector Razis Taurati at 089 24 2222 or 019 353 8505.
