Fire destroys homes in Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Telupid

SANDAKAN: A shophouse, a wooden house and two living quarters of the Sabah Rubber Industry Board were destroyed in separate outbreaks of fire over the weekend.

However, there were no casualties reported in either one of the fire.

A single-storey concrete shophouse in Rancangan Sungai Manila situated off Mile 12 Jalan Labuk was gutted yesterday afternoon.

Sandakan Zone Fire and Rescue chief, Anddre Andrew said the owner, aged 35, and five others were unharmed.

Two fire engines and a water tanker with nine firefighters were despatched to the location about 34 KM from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue station upon being notified at 12.29pm.

Anddre said the fire was contained at 1.24pm before it was doused completely at 3.53pm.

In KINABATANGAN, a blaze at Kampung Warisan on Sunday, destroyed a wooden house.

Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue station officer-in-charge, Rantey Fred said a Perodua Kancil car was also damaged in the fire. Six firefighters rushed to the village after receiving an emergency call at 3.38pm.

They succeeded in putting the blaze under control at 4.20pm.

In TELUPID, two units of the Sabah Rubber Industry Board workers’ quarters were destroyed in a fire early Saturday.

One fire engine with four firemen from the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue station responded to a distress call at 4.28am.

The firefighters reached the scene situated nearly 118 Km from the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue station at 6.08am and managed to contain the blaze at 6.17am.

A three-ton lorry parked beside the living quarters was also gutted.
