First National Professor Council meeting under UMS Cluster

KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah held its first meeting of the National Professor Council (MPN) under UMS Cluster.

It was chaired by UMS National Professor Council chairman, Prof. Datuk Mohd Hamdan Adnan.

During the ceremony, Hamdan said that the MPN is introduced for the purpose of developing education and acting as an umbrella body for the many professors serving in local universities.

“MPN is a council for us (professors and academicians) as we are concerned about the knowledge and academic development,” he said.

He also said that in MPN, there are 16 clusters in total such as Cluster of Education and Human Development, Cluster of Economics and Management, Cluster of Politics, Security and International Affairs, Cluster of History, Heritage and Sociocultural, Cluster of Science and Mathematics, Cluster of Engineering, Technology and Environment, and Cluster of Natural Resources and Environment.

Others Cluster of Medicine and Health Sciences, Cluster of Industry and Innovation, Cluster of Agriculture and Food, Cluster of Information Technology and Communication, Cluster of Social Development and Well-Being, Cluster of Governance, Law and Public Management, Cluster of National Utility, Cluster of Special National Project (Media, Democracy and Electoral System) and Cluster of Special National Project (Private Higher Education Institutions- IPTS).

The event was officiated by Deputy of Vice Chancellor in Academics and International, Prof. Dr. D Kamarudin D Mudin on behalf of UMS Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah.

In his speech, he highlighted that MPN is a council that functions as a catalyst for experts and professor in many local universities.

“The UMS Chapter hopes to give contributions to our nation especially in helping with the academic development, and helping with policy making,” he said.
