Developing future business leaders at TARUC

25th May, 2017

KOTA KINABALU: For more than four decades, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) has proven to have nurtured many highly-qualified and skilled business leaders in Malaysia.

This is indeed a well-known fact and can be attested to by the fact that the institution has produced many business leaders over the years comprising chief financial officers, accountants, industry captains as well as successful entrepreneurs. This excellent track record can mainly be attributed to its Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business (FAFB) which has provided the students with excellent teaching as well as highly-accredited programmes by global and national professional bodies.

Apart from delivering teaching in the classrooms, students are also encouraged to broaden their knowledge and develop hands-on skills by taking part in various industry competitions.

Throughout the years, TARUC’s FAFB students are known to have achieved top placings in these competitions, serving as testament to the industry-relevant and professionally driven programmes provided by the faculty. This outstanding track record of student achievement continued to extend in 2016 with numerous top awards acquired in a total of seven competitions.

One notable achievement is the win in the PNB 1Malaysia Investment Quiz Competition where TARUC’s FAFB students emerged champion.

Bachelor of Finance and Investment (Hons) students Yuan Ting Jing, Seow Chun Pin and Kok Soong Yang beat 29 other institutions to rise to the top.

This is the third time that TARUC won the champion title in the competition. TARUC students also proved their prowess as entrepreneurs when its team consisting of Bachelor of Business (Hons) in International Business students as well as one Bachelor of Public Relations (Hons) graduate managed to emerge as the overall champion in the Nescafé Hub Competition 2016.

In the Deloitte Tax Challenge 2016, Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) students Saw Zhi Shan and Chuah Wei Jie, won the first runner-up position and the ACCA best presenter award respectively in the individual category.

It was also a double win for Saw Zhi Shan when he and his team comprising three other Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) students namely Lim Jing Jie, Pong Wen-Xin Isabelle and Revathi Naidu a/p Rajaram Naidu emerged as second runner-up in the team category.

From this team, Lim Jing Jie also won the ACCA best presenter award under the team category. In the MICPA-CAANZ Accountancy Week Accounting Students Quiz, TARUC scored a double win.

Its Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting) student team managed to clinch the champion title in the diploma category whereas its Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) team took the first runner-up position in the university category of the competition.

Besides that, Bachelor of Finance and Investment (Hons) students Cheah Weng Loong, Yuan Ting Jing, Cheak Juin Yaeng and Lee Tzyy Cherng also did the institution proud when they emerged as the first runner-up team at the national level of the CIMB ASEAN Stock Challenge 2016.

Furthermore, Bachelor of Finance & Investment (Hons) students Ooi Yin Chuan, Chew Jia Le, Tan Wei Ming and Carina Wong Wai San emerged second runner-up in the Malaysian Financial Planning Council (MFPC) National Financial Planning Tournament 2016.

TARUC also does not fall short of achievers when it comes to professional examinations due to the high standards of the institution’s business and finance programmes which have been accorded the highest recognition by global and national professional bodies.

In the ACCA September 2016 examination, Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) graduate Cheong Chun Fai emerged as the third top Malaysian ACCA affiliate after managing to secure straight passes for all the ACCA professional level papers.

The latest top achiever is Tan Xin Yin who emerged as top in Malaysia and third in the world for paper P1 governance, risk and ethics in the December 2016 examination.

Meanwhile, TARUC also shined in the ICSA examination when a graduate of the Bachelor of Corporate Administration (Hons) Chin Jo Han bagged the Yayasan Sime Darby Prize for the best paper in corporate governance in the ICSA International Qualifying Scheme (IQS) professional part 2 June 2016 examination.

The abovementioned achievements in both industry competitions as well as professional examinations clearly demonstrate TARUC’s strength and expertise in the delivery of top-notch business programmes.

With over 48 years of glowing track record, TARUC has become a trusted brand in Malaysia and regionally in providing exceptional business education.
