21st April, 2017

KOTA KINABALU: The Jiangmen Sport School Table Tennis Team put up a dominant performance, yesterday, to capture the Gold Award in the Tuaran Ping Pong Association (TPPA) and the Chinese team friendly match.

The Chinese team sent six players to play in the four-team friendly match held at the Senior Citizens Association in Likas, near here.

While the hosts, Tuaran Ping Pong Association sent out three teams consisting of TPPA Team A, TPPA Team B and TPPA Team C where the Silver Award went to Team C while Bronze Award was won by Team B.

Meanwhile, in the individual event, Jiangmen Sport School Table Tennis Team took home two gold medals, while TPPA Team C matched their Chinese counterparts by racking up two gold medals also.

Before the matches started, TPPA president, Lee Chee Fat thanked his guests from China for supporting the event where it was beneficial to the local players to learn and improve themselves.

“Ping pong is one of the national sports in China where their standard is far ahead of us here in Malaysia. Therefore, it was an honour for them to attend our event because we could learn more to improve ping pong development in Malaysia especially Sabah,” he said.

Shan Yun Yen, the chief coach of Jiangmen Sport School Table Tennis Team also thanked TPPA for the arrangement and hosting of the friendly matches where it enabled her students to get the experience of playing outside their country. – UMESH RAJAN
