MID Sabah, SMK Tiong Hua to organise education roadshow

SANDAKAN: MID Sabah Incorporated Sdn Bhd, a GLC (Government Link Company) under the Ministry of Industrial Development Sabah with the cooperation of SMK Tiong Hua will jointly organise Jobs & You Roadshow – “Your Career Pathway Seminar this April 18.

This event which starts from 8am will be held at the school hall and mini theatre and will involve Form 5 students of the school.

The organising committee invites parents to attend this event, as an avenue for them to gather more information if they have plans to send their children for further studies. Likewise, it also invites teachers, members of the school board, PTA and alumni to attend the event.

According to General Manager of MID Sabah Incorporated Sdn Bhd, Kee Chiang Kiah, he has set up a joint organising committee for the event after a meeting with the principal of SMK Tiong Hua, Huang Lee Yung.

Through the cooperation of the school, the committee hopes to convey the importance of this seminar to students and parents, and to encourage parents to accompany their children to attend the event.

The organising committee has invited speakers from Petronas, Yayasan Sabah Foundation and relevant government agencies to speak on the following subjects:-

  • “Petronas Education Sponsorship Program (PESP)”. Petronas will share with the students on how to apply for the program, and how to enrol in the company’s related university and learning institutions. In addition, Petronas will also share their view on the Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Kinabalu Coders (KC), a non-governmental organization (NGO) and a computer programming organization will share on the topic of “Kita Bikin” – The Maker Movement in Sabah and beyond. On that day, the speaker will touch on programming with Raspberry Pi’s; robotics with Arduinos; the Internet of Things and much more in which all are related to the programming skill and industry.
  • The topic of the Yayasan Sabah Foundation is “Ke mana selepas SPM”. On the same day, the Sabah Foundation will not only share information related to scholarships and scholarships offered in the state, but also on how students can continue their studies, and introduce several colleges.
  • Institut Latihan Perindustrian (ILP) Sandakan will focus their talk on “Ikon ILP Sandakan”. The presenter will share his own experience so that it can be used as reference for those who will be enrolled in the near future. Jobs & You Roadshow – “Your Career Pathway Seminar” is an information platform, provided to the target audience such as young Form 5 students who will need to plan their career pathway.

Through the event, the committee hopes to encourage students to continue to study, enhance personal knowledge and value themselves in order to pursue future better job opportunities.

It highlights relevant courses offered by local institutions of higher learning to help students and let them know how to choose their courses.

In addition, by explaining the application procedures for scholarships or assistance offered by the state and non-governmental organizations, students gain a better understanding on how to apply for financial assistance.

This seminar will not only focus on information for further studies but also explain on the direction of the state industry’s direction and its current development, and also the related industry’s employment opportunities.

The committee encourages students to pursue further studies after the secondary school level, gain knowledge and skill and come back to find a highly skilled and better paying job.

The joint organizers hope that the students and their parents will find time to participate in this event as it can help the student to better understand their own career pathway. – By James Leong
