State lifters clinch eight gold medals

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah weightlifters had a respectable outing at the recently concluded Terengganu National Weightlifting Championship held at the Gong Badak Closed Stadium in Kuala Nerus.

The state contingent racked up a total of eight gold, four silver and five bronze medals throughout the three-day tournament where more than 150 weightlifters from 14 teams participated in the two categories opened, namely Under-17 and Open for both male and female lifters.

Leading the medal tally list is Elly Casandra Engelbert who won two gold medals for the state in the Girls’ U-17 Snatch and Clean & Jerk categories.

Nelcy Tunik also contributed two gold medals for Sabah while male weight- lifters Calixtus Daunis and Ronny Jesos contributed two gold and two silver medals.

Other gold medal contributors are Maceeta Marlyn after winning one gold medal and Fendylina Adim who racked up one gold and one bronze medal.

The rest of the medal winners are St Xavier Henry (one silver and one bronze), Mixxicomoko Philip (one silver and one bronze), and lastly Sherlyne Jounis contributed two bronze medals.

Sabah Weightlifting Association (Sawa) president and also the contingent’s team manager, Philip Gisan was pleased with the state athletes’ performance during the championship.
