Jessica, Duncan to spearhead Sabah’s gold-medal quest

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 24 junior squash players will don the state jersey for the national level MSSM Squash Championship to be held at SMK Bukit Bintang in Petaling Jaya, Selangor from March 19 to 24.

Sabah’s gold-medal quest will be spearheaded by future squash princess, Jessica Keng of SMK Inanam who will be the favourite in the Girls’ U-15 category alongside her teammate studying at Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS), Yee Xin Ying.

Whereas another upcoming talent, Duncan Lee also from BJSS is hoping to win the gold for Sabah as he competes in the Boys’ U-15 category, while another Sabahan studying at BJSS, Lai Wen Li will be looking to go all the way in the Girls’ U-18.

At the same time, the younger juniors such as Tristan Andreas and Rachel Richard will lead the charge for their age group in the Boys’ and Girls’ U-12 whereby they hope to put up good performances throughout the championship as they did in several past tournaments.

The state contingent will be led by contingent chief, Suriyansyah Yunus, accompanied by team manager, Anas Sulaiman and head coach, Suarno Suradi.

Among the junior squash players representing the state are Boys’ and Girls’ U-18 competitors Kayden Liaw, Nicholas Tan, Kong Kun Hao, Danish Adlan Dahalan, Lai Wen Li, Joanne Joseph, Audrey Richard and Naylie Zulkifli.

The Boys’ and Girls’ U-15 line-up consists of Jessica Keng, Yee Xin Ying, Etain Tay, Nuraliah Natasha Dahalan, Duncan Lee, Adam Amrie Goh, Yee Zheng Hong and Syafiq Asyari Sarjuddin.

Meanwhile, Euven Liaw, Tristan Andreas, Aniq Azhar Azriansyah, Chong Chi Vui, Rachel Richard, Nadia Abdullah, Doyce Lee and Chin Sze Yi are selected for the Boys’ and Girls’ U-12 category.
