Labuan first to book playoff berth

5th December, 2016

BY FRANCIS XAVIER Francis@newsabahtimes.com.my

KOTA KINABALU: Labuan became the first team to have booked their place in the playoff of the Liga Bolasepak Rakyat (LBR) 2016/17 Borneo Zone I challenge.

They are assured of a top spot finish after registering a slim 1-0 win over Sipitang yesterday.

The three points earned from the home win saw them occupy the top spot in the Group II standings on 13 points.

Second place Papar, who also nicked a narrow 1-0 win over Penampang, are four points behind.

With only one more match left to play for all the four teams, Labuan is unshakable at the top of the four-team standings, which eventually earned them a place in the playoff.

For the record, only the top teams in the four-group Borneo Zone I make it into the playoff.

Yesterday, Azrin Kalan scored the only goal of the match in the 12th minute.
