KOTA KINABALU: A teacher wants to offer Malaysians something different in conjunction with the Merdeka Month.
Harthono Isnanthomo, 42, plans to inline skate non-stop for 18 hours at the podium of Karamunsing Complex from Aug 20-21 or to be precise from 10am on Aug 20 to 4.20am, the following morning.
The effort if successful will earn Hathono, a teacher of SK Sri Tanjung Papat 2, Sandakan a name in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) – his third in the record book.
Organising chairperson, Sharifah Arif who is also Harthono’s wife said that it was the husband’s intention to give something special to the people of Sabah and Malaysia.
Speaking at a press conference, Sharifah said that the public could give moral support to Harthono and she hoped that youths could emulate the effort by believing in themselves that they could achieve their goals if they set their sight.
According to her, Harthono also hoped to promote healthy lifestyle living among the people.
“We are getting the support from many quarters,” she added.
She also said that after the feat, Harthono hoped to carry out his second mission, to traverse the country on inline skates.
“We hoped to crisscross from Perlis to Kota Kinabalu,” she said of Harthono’s next feat.
Harthono meanwhile hoped that the public could cheer him on by carrying the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with the Merdeka Month.
Harthono is no stranger to record breaking feats as he earned his name by carving the largest Jalur Gemilang in Malaysia in 2004 at Jalan Buli Sim-Sim, Sandakan. The flag measured 11 metres long by 6 metres wide.
In Aug 30, 2005, he walked on the escalator for 17 hours 20 minutes at Centre Point Complex, a feet which also earned him a name in MBR.
The latest project is sponsored by Karamunsing Complex, Skateline (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Negeri Sembilan Sports Council, Sawit Kinabalu, Pewaris Gua Gomantong Sdn Bhd dan Kinabalu Daya Hotel.
